Every year, Ascension Episcopal School chooses a theme that is consciously woven into the curriculum and heart of the school to allow the students to be able to fully experience its meaning throughout the year.
For 2016-2017, Ascension has chosen The Kindness Project for the school year theme. Pulled from our core values (Gentle, Generous, Truthful, Kind and Brave) and one of our 4 Guiding Scriptures (Ephesians 4:29-32), The Kindness Project focuses on our ability as a community to be kind to one and other as well as extending kindness beyond our school bounds.
We begin by encouraging our students to help promote the theme with our spirit shirts. Our school spirit shirt for 2016-2017 features ten different inspirational quotes around kindness, and every student, faculty, and staff member was given a shirt on the first day of school and encouraged to wear their shirts each Friday. We then challenged our teachers to help live out the theme by incorporating projects and assignments involving kindness into their lessons.
Design thinking and community service projects have been chosen based on the ability they allow our students to show kindness to others. The Kindness Project has truly infiltrated Ascension Episcopal School, and we look forward to witnessing and experiencing the fruits of this effort in the years to come.
