The Town Talk in Alexandria, Louisiana: A chess tournament was held Saturday, April 22, 2017, at BrainSurge in Alexandria, LA. The tournament not only drew students from local schools but from J.S. Leadership Academy in Opelousas and Ascension Episcopal School in Lafayette. Adults also participated in the tournament. Thomas Harmeyer, owner of BrainSurge, said tournaments like this are part of an effort to engage academically-inclined students.Two Ascension students, Luke LeBlanc and Elliott Lynd, placed first and second in the Middle School division. Taylor Ducote, Sugar Mill Pond Campus faculty member and Chess Club sponsor, was a semi-finalist at the event. Way to go, Blue Gators!
For the first time ever, our Ascension Episcopal School Parent Support Organizations came together for a joint fundraiser as they competed to be named Blue Gator Boogie CHAMPIONS! Each organization - PTO, Booster Club, and Fine Arts Alliance - performed three acts on Friday, March 17, to win votes. Congratulations to all our performers, choreographers, and volunteers for an incredibly fun, entertaining, and successful event!
